I was throwing some ideas into a sketchpad here, around racism and how one’s loyalty to a nation state influences their views of others. This was done back in the early 1990s. I feel it is a much more mainstream issue now in 2020s!
I tend to take a sketchpad everywhere, and when travelling it is a great way of recording where I am. While this is a rather childlike drawing of a train, for myself it is a record of a specific time and place. I remember the specific metro station in Paris it was in, when it was (even though I’ve been to Paris over ten times since).
That is the beauty of personal sketching as opposed to drawing for an audience – you don’t need to be managed by others expectations or your desire to wow people. That is of course the point of this website of images – these are all the drawings I do for myself – good or bad.
